Laughter roared around the room. Everyone was laughing. Everyone for the exception of Christopher Martin.
“Say again” the man asked, holding back laughter. Chris still wasn’t laughing.
"I said" Chris continued. He wasn't stupid, he knew they were laughing at him. He knew that they were laughing at him for his interesting choice in car. "I said that I would like a yellow, yes a yellow, Volkswagen Beetle"
"Uhh, sure, whatever you say" the man replied. "He's a funny one is this guy from Coldplay" the man continued, laughing his head off.
"What's your name?" Chris asked, standing still, staring into the eyes of this man who was scarcely into his 20's.
"My name?" the man replied.
"Yes your name, wait, I will say my name first, I am Chris Martin! What is yours?" Chris asked, his eyebrows raised.
"Uhh, my name is Stuart Reed" the man said, he wasn't laughing anymore. He actually seemed intimidated by the man in front of him.
"Stuart, you know, I was going to call my son Stuart but my wife thought that it wasn't wierd enough!" Chris said. Staurt looked round, exchanging glances with several of his colleagues.
"Oh cool, yeah, so, a Yellow Volkswagen Beetle?" Stuart asked, his voice seemed to be higher. Maybe he was scared. That was what Chris thought. Chris thought that Stuart was scared of him. That certainly was not his intention.
"Yes" Chris said, before realising his tone of voice could of been considered slightly intimidating. "Yes please"
"I will see if we've got any" Stuart said, not looking at Chris. "Follow me" he said, turning round and walking down the show room. Chris followed him.
Chris had already spotted it from the other side of the room. The lovely shaped, distinguishable sign of yellow beauty. It was love at first sight.
"There it is" Chris said, stopping in his tracks. Stuart heard him, stopped and turned round.
"What?" Stuart asked, the appeal of being in the presence of a rock star had now worn off.
"The Yellow Volkswagen Beetle, there it is!" Chris exclaimed, running towards it. He seemed to run like they do in movies- in slow motion. Chris arrived at the car, hugged it and got out his credit card and dropped it on the floor.
"Take it, Stuart, take the card, take out whatever you want from it and give it back to me on Monday, I just want to drive in this car right this minute" Chris demanded, he was in ecstacy. Stuart had just caught up.
"Y'what?" Stuart asked, out of breath.
"There's my card" Chris said, opening the car door and getting in, closing the door behind him. Chris glanced at the keys in the ignition and started the car before hearing a knock on the window. Chris pressed the button and the window came down, Chris looked over to Stuart.
"What?" Chris asked.
"Uhh you are in a show room" Stuart replied.
"And?"
"Uhh, nothing" Stuart said, staring down at the credit card, imagining what fun he could have with it. Without looking back up at Chris, he exclaimed "Have a good day sir"
And the two men were very happy- for now.
